Abstract

This article presents the path that was followed in order to design user-oriented and standardized process control systems. The foundation was established by analyzing the context of use in various industries where automated industrial processes are run. For the first time, operator core activities were identified across different sectors and in detail. For these common activities, software building blocks were specified and prototypes were evaluated in the field.
