Abstract

Background: - Inspite of the fact that decubitus ulcer progress is normally viewed as a sign for standard ofthe care provided by the nurse, queries and anxiety about the condition during which they are inevitable stillpersists. Objective: To assess the knowledge and attitude of the nurses regarding safeguard of the pressureulcers in selected hospitals. Methodology: A Non-Experimental Descriptive Research Approach is used. 60samples were selected by using Nonprobability Purposive Sampling Technique. Investigator used structuredquestionnaire to assess the knowledge, 5-point Likert’s scale to assess the attitude. Result: Majority of thesubjects (67%) were between the age group 21-25 years while the remaining (33%) subjects were of theage group of 26 -30 years. Majority of the subjects (57%) were females while (43%) were males. Majorityof the subjects (98.3%) were B.Sc. nurses while (17%) Post Basic B.Sc. qualified. Majority of the subjects(64%) had 2.1 - 4 years of experience while the remaining (36%) had 1- 2 years of experience. Majority ofthe subjects (75%) had good knowledge score and the remaining (25%) had average knowledge score. Allof the subjects (100%) had a positive view score regarding anticipation of the pressure ulcers. Conclusion:Findings indicate that the questionnaire and Likert attitude scale was effective in assessing the knowledgeand point of view of the nurses regarding the prevention of Bed sore. Study also concluded that majority ofthe nurses had good awareness and positive approach towards the prevention of pressure ulcer.
