Abstract

This article describes the status of official publications in a unique public information service — the Bibliothèque publique d'information (BPI) in the Georges Pompidou Centre in Paris. Visited by 15,000 people each day, BPI is the busiest library in France. Official publications are integrated into a modest collection that emphasizes a broad range of current affairs topics and timeliness of information. Analysis suggests that official publications are heavily utilized in this highly charged setting. Observations are offered regarding the users of official publications and government bibliographies and databases that relate to official publications.
