Abstract

Monocercomonoides sayeedi n. sp., is recorded from the rumen of an Indian goat, Capra hircus Linn. The typical individual is egg-shaped. The nucleus is irregular in shape and contains a central karyosome and extra-karyosomal granules. Two blepharoplasts are present, connected by a rhizoplast. The dorsal blepharoplast has three basal granules from which the posterior flagella and axostyle arise. From the ventral blepharoplast, which contains two basal granules, emerge the two anterior flagella. All the four flagella, which are comparatively short, end in acronemes. A filamentous axostyle is present and sometimes protrudes beyond the body-wall. A cytostome with an opening to the exterior is found in-between the blepharoplasts and under the nucleus. The length ranges from 4.8–10.0 μ, average 7.0 μ. The breadth ranges from 3.5–8.7 μ, average 6.3 μ.
