Abstract

In a low-density model of nuclear shadowing we determine the ratio of total cross sections for hadronic charm production in p A and pp collisions at various c.m. energies. Defining σ p A→ c c =A ασ pp→ c c , we find that α is bigger than 0.96 for all physically existing nuclie at present collider energies. We also find that the total cross section of hadronic charm production is mostly determined by a cc̄ mass value of about twice the threshold energy.
