Abstract
A demountable variable focus X-ray tube is described which permits a wide range of operation in terms of X-ray source size and hence maximum continuous tube power. By altering the position of the filament, source sizes measured on the anode face ranging from 0.25 mm*8 mm to 10 mm*8 mm can easily be obtained. The maximum continuous tube power with the present system is 2.2 kW. The X-ray tube is completely demountable and all the components can be interchanged easily. Consequently a wide range of filament sizes and cathode structures can be used with the one system.
