Abstract

A compact laser pumping cavity is described in which four parallel flash tubes can be easily removed, refurbished, refilled, and reinstalled. The maximum input electric energy, without suffering catastrophic failure of the flash tube is 18 kJ. The electrodes and quartz tubes are detachable and permit easy cleaning and replacement of eroding parts. This system was successfully employed in the pumping of a Nd:YAG laser.
