Abstract

In this paper a simple integral is investigated by first introducing an associated discontinuous function. The evaluation of the integral is then completed by making use of delta functions and Fourier transforms. This technique introduces ideas which, at first sight, might appear to conflict with the traditional mathematical approach to discontinuous functions.
