Abstract
Two concurrent pilot studies into research priorities in physiotherapy were conducted using the Delphi method. Respondents for the two studies were physiotherapists with research expertise and newly-qualified physiotherapists. The respondents generated items most worthy of research in round one, and reassessed and reordered the resulting rankings in rounds two and three. The two groups showed considerable agreement in their choice of priorities — the Bobath approach, spinal mobilisation/manipulation and ultrasound being among the first five items for both groups. Pulsed electromagnetic energy and back schools were also among the first ten items for both groups. A more extensive study eliciting the help of physiotherapists from a wide range of experience and interest is recommended.
