Abstract

Most existing two dimensional (2-d) direction of arrival (DOA) estimation methods are based on circular signal model. Little effort has been spent in developing 2-d DOA estimation for noncircular (NC) signals because the estimation of the natural phase increases the computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a new 2-d DOA estimation method NC signals based on L-shape array. The first dimensional angle is estimated by polynomial rooting technique, the second dimensional angle is obtained through decoupling. Due to the noncircularity of the impinging sources, the proposed method is able to handle more signals than circular method. Simulation results show that the proposed method can obtain higher resolution and lower root mean square error (RMSE) in comparison with circular method under the same conditions.
