Abstract
The paper aims to present a decision support system (DSS) for diagnosing the financial condition of an organization. The authors’ approach to DSS design is founded on a five-element paradigm: data - dialog - modeling - communication - creativity, being an extension of Sprague and Carlson’s seminal idea put forward in 1982. The addition of communication and creativity components to the Sprague-Carlson triad represents an outcome of the authors’ ongoing research and an attempt to offer better support for making complex unstructured decisions. The central section of the paper discusses a recent implementation of the authors’ architectural concept and describes a sample financial analysis session performed using the prototype system.
