Abstract

AbstractA five-year project begun in 1992 at the Centre for English Name Studies, University of Nottingham, aims to create a computerized database for the study of English placenames, incorporating materials from the published volumes of the English Place-Name Survey as a research tool for scholars in a number of disciplines. The database can be searched in a variety of ways, lending flexibility and creativity to the investigation of English placenames per se and to other areas in which placenames may be informative.
