Abstract

A quadrupole mass spectrometer scanning in 0.1 s has been linked to a small computer operating in a real-time, time-shared environment. The modifications to the mass spectrometer are discussed and a general purpose interface is described. Since the method of peak location used has a considerable immunity to long term drift it makes the system particularly suitable for control applications. Two modes of use of the system are described.
