Abstract

We investigated how the “break dance” style of dance constitutes a field of artistic expression and allows creativity within the context of complex urbanization, which is influenced by social exclusion (dialectical materialism). We collected our data by contacting groups of dancers and analyzed their descriptions of modern dance, which resulted in the construction of two themes: “strangeness” and “movement.” Their experimentation with these two areas encompassed efforts that were ruled only by the law of space, and resulted in numerous possibilities for expression. Using the parameters of their movements, which forge spaces within reality represented by the scenic context of battle (racha), we expanded our concept of the body’s limits.
