Abstract
In this paper, a damage failure criterion for orthotropic materials is derived, based on an isotropic damage model for anisotropic materials. An empirical modification of this criterion, which can be used in sheet metal forming and is related to a critical probability for linking up of voids, is emphasized. The modified damage criterion is applied to predict the fracture limit curves of sheet metals, which are in good agreement with the experimental results given by Ghosh.
