Abstract

The use of a cylindrical surface barrier diode as the electron detector in a six gap beta ray spectrometer is found to make a substantial improvement to the quality of in-beam internal conversion electron spectra. The method of manufacturing the diode is described in some detail and its characteristics are presented. A closed loop electronic system has been used to keep the electron peak in the detector pulse height spectrum within the window of a single channel analyser during the point by point scanning of an internal conversion spectrum.
