Abstract

Abstract A compact fiber Bragg grating (FBG) and Mach–Zehnder interferometer (MZI) compound for simultaneous measurement of bending and temperature is described. The FBG and MZI are fabricated in fiber forming a compact device, which is different from the previously developed axial cascade of different structures. Experimental results show that the FBG and MZI have different sensitivities for bending and temperature, allowing this device to measure bending and temperature simultaneously. The device has the advantages of small size, simple preparation steps, low cost, short preparation cycle, etc. Due to its excellent performance, it has the potential to become an excellent universal bending and temperature sensor.
