Abstract

This work aims for nonlinear control of two-stage Photovoltaic water pumping system (PVWPS). This paper proposes an sliding mode control (SMC) and an improved current control maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm for PVWPS. The MPPT algorithm provides a current reference for the SMC, which ensures fast convergence with a lower steady-state error. Scalar control is used to drive the induction motor fed by inverter with sinusoidal pulse width modulation scheme. To validate, the dynamic and steady-state performance of PVWPS, simulation results are compared with conventional MPPT (P&O and Incremental Conductance (InC)) at the rapid change in environmental conditions. The proposed method enhances the dynamic and steady-state performance to improve the efficiency of the system.
