Abstract
Synopsis In the analysis of rectangular reinforced concrete slabs by yield-line theory using the simple diagonal patterns of collapse, it has always been considered a necessary part of the calculation to check that the correct diagonal mode has been used. It is shown that, for most practical cases of slab design, this is not necessary, because the values from the correct and incorrect patterns are almost identical.
