Abstract

AbstractGeneralized van der Waals theory is used to obtain a three‐parameter cubic equation of state which is applicable to fluids containing small or large molecules, including polymers. The necessary parameters are obtained from a minimum of experimental information. Upon extension to mixtures, the equation of state is used to calculate high‐pressure phase equilibria for the ethylene–polyethylene system. The relatively simple equation may be useful for engineering‐design calculations for fluid mixtures containg polymers, especially when very few experimental data are available.
