Abstract

An anionic, "naked" copper sulfide cluster, [Cu(16)S(10)](4-), was synthesized by treating multi-copper starting materials with the hydrosulfide salt, (nBu(4)N)SH. The sixteen copper atoms in [Cu(16)S(10)](4-) are arranged in a square gyrobicupola with eight mu(3)- and two mu(4)-sulfido ligands.
