Abstract

of 3.672 (9 = 90°) for the case of s = 0.1. As the distortion parameter e approaches zero, ve converges to 2.66 uniformly on 9, which is the exact result obtained for the undistorted internal boundary. Thus it is found that the maximum stress concentrations occur at the points where the angle is 90° and 270°, respectively, and they are approximately 36.8 percent higher than for the undistorted case when s = 0.1. If we take s = 0.01, in which case the ratio of semiminor to semimajor is 0.999, the maximum stress concentrations are approximately 2.3% higher. The distribution of hoop stress in the radial direction for various angles is given in Fig. 1. It shows that the magnitude of the hoop stress increases as 9 increases from 0° to 90° in the region re < r < 1.5, and decreases in the region 1.5 < r < 2 converging to the value for e = 0 case.
