Abstract

Bean R. and Peel D. A. (1976) A cross sectional analysis of Regional strike activity in Britain, Reg. Studies 10, 299–305. Despite a number of recent quantitative studies of strike incidence in Britain using time series data, as yet there has been an absence of cross-sectional regression analysis of the regional composition of strike activity. This paper presents a first approach towards an analysis of the interregional variation in strike activity for certain industry groups in 1972, using working days lost as the dependent variable. The findings suggest that regional strike proneness by industries is related to a number of stated economic variables and to other influences specific to the particular industry groups themselves.
