Abstract
A two-dimensional acoustic particle velocity sensor has been designed and realized. The novel crossed-wire sensor structure provides a direct two-dimensional measurement with sensitive directions exactly orthogonal to each other thus requiring no directivity calibration. This miniature design of size 1.0×2.5×0.5 mm dissipates only half the power required by existing one-dimensional particle velocity sensors and shows comparable bandwidth. The devices are relatively easy to fabricate, smaller and more robust than existing parallel-wire particle velocity sensors.
