Abstract

It has been reported that some healthcare providers in the developing countries may be unwilling to initiate insulin treatment due to multiple reasons including the patients’ resistance to accept insulin prescription [1]. World-wide, it is well established that optimal control of the blood glucose levels of type 2 diabetes patients constitute a major challenge for the patients as well as healthcare providers particularly for patients living in the developing countries [2]. The United Kingdom Prospective Diabetes Study (UKPDS) demonstrated some decades ago that most type 2 diabetes patients had only 50 % of normal insulin secretion on diagnosis which decreases to 25 % after six years of diabetes duration [3].
