Summary

Introduction

Irrational use of antibiotics is a global phenomenon. More than 50% of all antibiotics are prescribed, sold or dispensed inappropriately, while 50% of the patients are not taking antibiotics correctly (WHO, 2004). Some of the factors affecting this irrational use include socio-economic status, physicians’ knowledge and training, patient load, diagnostic ambiguity, availability of treatment guidelines and pharmaceutical marketing (Barden et al, 1998; Andrajati et al, 2017). The potential dangers associated with inappropriate use of antibiotics. Faizullah et al / Journal of Applied Pharmaceutical Science 7 (12); 2017: 038-046
