Abstract

Aspidistra Ker‐Gawl (Asparagaceae) is currently one of the fastest growing genera in Angiosperms. The literature is widespread in a great number of journals. In a number of cases species limits are more or less blurred, and especially the number and ranking of infraspecific entities are confusing. The paper provides a critical overview of all currently accepted infraspecific taxa in 11 species. Three species are subdivided in two subspecies each, eight species encompass 17 varieties. Three infraspecific taxa are described as status novus, A. punctatoides is reduced to synonymy in A. arnautovii.
