Abstract

The current study critically investigates the philosophical foundations of Oaths in the context of Qur’anic principles. It also explores the implications for the Islamic ethics and jurisprudence in the light of the thoughts of Muslims scholars. It aims to critically examine the relevance of oaths in the holy Qur’an with jurisprudence and ethics. Oaths means to establish truthful statements to demonstrate sincerity and honesty. This is considered the significant component of Islam. The study explores the ontological and epistemological foundations of oaths linking it with truth and knowledge. The study also covers the ethical foundations of oaths and it emphasises that oaths focuses on dependability and accountability for the people. The aim of this research is to highlight the Quranic way of addressing which seems totally natural because the similar way of addressing has been remained in human history. The basic question was emerged that if the Quranic way of addressing to its audiences has been logical, so it was the reason to work on this topic. The topic holds a lot of significance because it is related to the moral values like trust, and honesty, thus, it highlights the significance of Islamic teachings.
