Abstract

ABSTRACT This investigation offers an appraisal of the effectiveness and efficiency of assessments in General National Vocational Qualification (GNVQ). An historical perspective helps to position the significance of the GNVQ initiative. A summary of the requirements for GNVQ core skills is included, with discussion as to their appropriateness. A brief historical commentary on assessment methods helps to reinforce the GNVQ rationale and explain how it has developed. A discussion of the issues identified by various writers follows, leading to an appraisal of the GNVQ assessment. Finally some conclusions as to the qualification's current standing are offered
