Abstract

While recent attention has been directed towards the control of rejuvenation in metallic glasses (MGs), there has been so far little or no mechanism underlying the rejuvenation process of MGs. Herein, we study-six different MG systems and a criterion to determine whether the MGs can be rejuvenated on the basis of chemical composition is developed. Our results show that the rejuvenated MGs tend to have a slow diffusion process at high temperatures. Moreover, it is found that the rejuvenated MGs display large negative mixing enthalpy as well as large mismatch entropy, implying a close correlation with the glass-forming ability. These results advance our understanding of the mechanism underlying the rejuvenation, and establish a correlation between the chemical composition and the rejuvenation.
