Abstract

In this letter, a wideband coplanar waveguide (CPW)-fed open cross-slot antenna with both linear and circular polarizations has been designed. By etching a modified open cross-slot in the ground plane, two orthogonal electric fields with a quadrature phase difference excited a circularly polarized wave at 2.34 GHz. The characteristics of the moderate impedance bandwidth resulted from the merging of three resonant modes into a wide band. The measured impedance bandwidth of return loss <;10 dB ranged from 1.69 to 2.78 GHz.
