Abstract

Optimizing laboratory experiences for Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) students developing orthopedic clinical examination and intervention skills poses a challenge in medical education. This retrospective study evaluated student perceptions following implementation of a course-specific video-based laboratory manual (Lab Manual) produced by their instructor. One hundred percent of respondents considered the Lab Manual "Very helpful, would continue using." Student performance evaluated across consecutive semesters revealed significant improvements in laboratory course percentages in all groups analyzed. Implementation of the Lab Manual was perceived as very helpful and was associated with improved performance of orthopedic physical therapy skills among entry-level DPT students.
