Abstract
Good health is an essential component of human development but while there has been a gradual improvement in the average health status of human beings, countries around the world have struggled to build health systems which have the capacity to ensure the best possible health of every human being in an affordable way. The principal reason for this has not been the lack of political will or the unwillingness to experiment with new ideas but the sheer complexity and the multidimensional nature of the task. The goal of this course is to familiarise students with some of the key health system dimensions and to begin their journey as a health systems designers in a multi-dimensional universe. The three dimensions examined in some detail in this course will be Financing, Payments, and Organisation of Health Systems.
