Abstract

A coupled-spiral interferometer is a compact photonic component employing a continuous coupling between the arms of the spiral. Strong resonances occur when phase matching between the arms is achieved. In this work, we present an integrated silicon nitride organic-hybrid laser which is based on such a coupled-spiral interferometer resonator. Optical excitation is achieved with a 450 nm laser diode. The emission wavelength of the organic-hybrid laser is at 613 nm in transverse-magnetic-like polarization. As the coherent light is generated and directly emitted into a single-mode optical waveguide on the photonic chip elaborate coupling of laser light from an external source can be avoided.
