Abstract
In this paper, a new algorithm and structure are proposed to count the number of inbound and outbound people using the impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) radar sensors. Two IR-UWB radar sensors are used which are equipped with the narrow beam antenna. Two radar sensors make two adjacent thin layers vertically with the moving direction of the people. Using the system, we propose a new algorithm to count the number of people. Basically the magnitude information of each radar's received signal is used and the mutual information between the two adjacent radars is used to improve the performance of the algorithm. To prove the performance, two kinds of tests are implemented. The one of the experiments is implemented in the laboratory environment, and the other test is implemented in the real world, subway station for the ordinary people.
