Abstract
AbstractThis paper aims to design a low-cost automatic irrigation system to promote agricultural growth and help reduce poor farmers’ efforts. Agriculture is the backbone of India and many other countries. In India, agriculture majorly depends on rainwater, but rain alone as a source of water is insufficient, so the underground water is used for irrigation in the agriculture field. The level of underground water is decreasing day by day. Poor management of water can happen due to over-irrigation in the field. Many areas are suffering from drought. In several places, people have to travel many kilometers to get drinking water. Moreover, the electricity supply timings are very odd in fields. Because of this, farmers have to suffer so many sleepless nights. To effectively resolve these problems and to reduce human resources, modern technology can be used. The innovative irrigation system is one of the applications of IoT. This paper aims to design a system that automates the irrigation process and provides an option to turn the motor on or off manually just by pressing a button on the android app, thereby reducing problems faced by farmers. The proposed system has been designed using Arduino UNO, GSM modules, android application, and sensors such as temperature sensor and soil moisture sensor. The system offers a user-friendly interface for farmers and let them control the irrigation process automatically. The proposed system is cost-effective, as the hardware used for the implementation does not incur high cost. Moreover, it also does not require any additional labor cost.KeywordsArduino UNOAndroid appBreadboardInternet of ThingsIoTGSM moduleRelayMotorSensor
