Abstract

We present a convex projections-based method for ultra-wideband (UWB) pulse shape design. The projections onto convex sets (POCS) can be used as a UWB pulse design method without the need for linear filters. We numerically show that the designed pulses meet the FCC spectral mask. It is also observed that the designed pulses have relatively high spectrum utilization efficiencies. This phenomenon is particularly significant for the nominal, short pulse duration. The method provides FCC-compliant UWB pulse shapes without increasing the nominal, short pulse duration of the Gaussian monocycle
