Abstract

Persi Diaconis was born in New York on January 31, 1945. He received a B.S. in mathematics from the College of the City of New York in 1971, and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in mathematical statistics from Harvard University in 1972 and 1974, respectively. He was appointed an Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at Stanford University in 1974 and has been a member of the faculty at Stanford since then. His title is presently Professor of Statistics. The following conversation took place in his home in San Francisco one morning in October 1984.
