Abstract
α-Chloronitriles or α-chloroesters reacted with α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in the presence of powdered sodium hydroxide, in ethereal solvents, giving alkenyl-substituted glycidonitriles or esters. The straightforward process affords nitriles in particularly high yields.
