Abstract
Alcohols in small peptides, monosaccharides and steroids (12 examples) are conveniently transformed to their corresponding nitrate esters upon treatment with an acetonitrile solution of LiNO 3 and trifluoroacetic anhydride. The in situ formed mixed anhydride (CF 3COONO 2) is proposed to be the reactive nitration reagent.
