Abstract
Based on primary sources, this paper provides a fresh supplement to the picture of the past of the historic conservation area of Topčider. The documentary material contained in the Municipality of Belgrade Fonds kept in the Historical Archives of Belgrade is an invaluable source for the political, social and cultural history of Topčider. Various documents, including the reports that the Topčider police station submitted to the head of the City of Belgrade on a daily basis, testify to the care of city authorities for Topčider, to the attitude of common people and of the Obrenović and Karadjordjević dynasts towards it, to extraordinary and everyday events that were taking place there, to its growth and economic significance.
