Abstract

Questions relating to the study of ethnic processes have for many years attracted the attention of Soviet anthropologists specializing in the Caucasus. As early as the late 1940s, an interdisciplinary expedition of the Institute of Ethnography of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR studied ethnic processes in Dagestan. In subsequent years, anthropologists studying the Caucasus have investigated the mutual influences exerted by national cultures in terms of particular elements of material and nonmaterial culture.
