Abstract

After a brief survey of the different theories on the creep of concrete, a new cause is suggested which does not explain the whole creep, but a part of it, and which is of a chemical nature. The solubility of the unhydrated cement which is always present in cement paste, increases with the applied stress. This means that the volume of hydrated cement is more important in concrete submitted to creep.
