Abstract
The term “Noble Metals” refers to the economic value and first of all to the chemical and physical properties of these metals. To this group belong silver, gold and the platinum group elements (PGE) ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and platinum. With a geochemical frequency between 0.1 ppm (silver) and 0.001 ppm (PGE’s) they number among the rarest elements in the earth crust. Little is known about their bio-geochemical contents and distribution in plant, animal, man and nearly nothing about their eno-geochemical contents. An impulse for intensified investigations was the introduction of the catalytic cleaning of motorcar exhausts.
