Abstract

The chemical process industry, a highly successful global enterprise, currently faces certain challenges having significant implications for Process Control theory and practice. This paper takes the perspective that these challenges actually represent a unique opportunity for Process Technology in general, and Process Control in particular, to make an impact. An overview of some of the most important of these challenges is provided along with some suggestions regarding what the process control community needs to do in order to translate this potential opportunity into actual success.
