Abstract

In this chapter, I will provide a contemporary explanation of how the law may instill practical and theoretical concepts in its adherents. In particular, I will show that the law shapes a person’s mental processes and provides both theoretical and practical concepts which a person uses in his or her daily living through two mechanisms, namely (1) by creating social categories through which a person comes to understand the world and (2) by integrating those concepts into a person’s understanding of the world through their influencing daily behavior and in shaping a person’s habits so as to be in line with legal norms.
