Abstract
Gender relations were established throughout History, shaping themselves into cultural constructions of male and female identities, involving power relations. This situation resulted in the oppression and submission of women and in the “naturalization” of these relations, leading to the misrecognition of women in society. In face of this scenario, there have always been women resistance movements seeking for equity in gender relations. More recently, in modern times, some organized movements appeared to change this situation, being the precursors of many advances in the improvement of women’s life. They were called feminist movements and women’s movements. So the present article intends to approach the trajectory of these movements, especially in Brazil, emphasizing the legal advances and the citizenship rights achieved by women.
