Abstract

Describing the coexistence of normal and intruder states within the framework of the neutron‐proton Interacting Boson Model, some inconsistency in the choice of the neutron‐proton quadrupole force strength is pointed out. It is shown that this can be removed by rigorously calculating the unperturbed energy of the intruding configuration. This is illustrated by a calculation of the excited levels in 114Cd.
