Abstract

An intrathoracic rib is a rare and benign congenital anomaly of the thoracic cage. We report the case of an intrathoracic rib in which its pericardiac location and the lack of attachment to another rib or to a vertebra were unusual features. This anomaly is represented by the term ‘congenitally floating intrathoracic rib’. Knowing the distinct radiological features of this entity should help avoid misdiagnosis and unnecessary investigation.
