Abstract

[Ole Doring is a Senior Research Fellow at the Department for East Asian Studies of Bochum University and at the GIGA Institute of Asian Affairs (Hamburg), Germany, and Visiting Professor at Hunan Normal University, Changsha, PR China. He graduated in Philosophy and Sinology from Gottingen University and received his Ph.D. from Bochum University in 2003. He is engaged in extensive research and publications about cross-cultural understanding with special reference to medicine and ethics in East Asia. His numerous publications include Advances in Chinese Medical Ethics. Chinese and International Perspectives (ed., with Renbiao Chen), Hamburg (Mitteilungen des Instituts fur Asienkunde, 355) 2002, and “China‘s Struggle for Practical Regulations in Medical Ethics”, Nature Reviews Genetics 4, 233-239 (2003). His recent book is titled Chinas Bioethik verstehen, Hamburg (Abera) 2004.]
